dancehALL

choreography: Nicolò Abbattista and Christian Consalvo
movement coach: Marcella Fanzaga

duration: 20’
premiere: Milan, 2024

dancers: Arianna Cunsolo, Nicoletta Bellazzi, Francesca Lastella and Enrico Luly

“dancehALL” is an urban techno container, where four bodies move in an obsessive ritual. Four dances, salsa, cha cha cha, jive and polka, are torn from their context and reduced to essential dynamic patterns. The steps now become raw gestures, instead of sensual: precise mechanisms in a choral choreography where contact becomes detached and energy is consumed in a mechanical dance. Wrapped in an edgy black and white atmosphere, the performers trace clear lines, building a rigorous choreography, devoid of pathos. Their bodies move jerkily, in constant rhythmic patterns. Unnatural smiles and arms waving energetically: the sensual and various ballroom dancing is transformed into a dance “to be executed”. What if the passion fades away? What remains when dance becomes a pure exercise in style, drained of its variability? This is an experiment, an attempt to redefine the boundaries of dance, an invitation to reflect on body and movement.

The Lost Movement Company was founded in 2011 from an idea by choreographer Nicolò Abbattista in collaboration with dramaturg Christian Consalvo, Artistic Director of the Company since 2024. The artistic duo develops a choreographic research path focused on the relationship between body, roots, and community, having produced to date around 30 works presented in Italy, Europe, and Africa. Over the years, the Company has collaborated with cultural institutions, developing projects that intertwine production, training and audience engagement.

Without a predetermined dramaturgy, this creation transforms into an experience of pure energy – a fluid dialogue between body and sound. The title itself, with its unusual, archaic, and poetic structure, echoes literary English and appears in poetic texts to evoke nostalgic or romantic tones, creating an authentic aura – an act of surrender and elevation that reflects in the eyes of the observer. A dance that does not narrate but soars, that does not show but floats, carrying the spectator into a suspended dimension.

Born in 1988, Roberta Ferrara founded Equilibrio Dinamico in 2011. She is currently the artistic director and choreographer of the company and of the educational program, as well as associate artistic director since 2020 for Odyssey Dance Theatre in Singapore. She holds a degree in Modern Literature with a specialization in theatre culture, with an experimental thesis on the value of instinctive movement as a therapeutic gift for both dancers and non-dancers—research that has been presented at conferences and international training institutions. She has been invited to create and collaborate with many renowned dance institutions. Her works have been awarded and programmed in festivals and theatres across Europe, America and Asia.

“Variation +” is an act of resistance against the silent decline of theatre. Each variation is a moment of reflection on its forgotten value, on the urgency of staying alive in a place the world considers outdated. The dancers, crossed by an inner suffering, try to make themselves heard: bodies that move to draw attention, to remind us that theatre, today more than ever, is one of the last spaces where life is truly lived.

Nyko Piscopo is an Italian choreographer active nationally and internationally, awarded the ANCT Dance Prize 2025 by the Italian Association of Theatre Critics. After experiences as a dancer in different theatres, he developed a distinctive choreographic language blending ballet and contemporary dance with a strong theatrical and social focus. In 2019 he founded Cornelia Dance Company, recognized by the Italian Ministry of Culture. His works have been presented all around the world. Alongside his choreographic activity, he is deeply involved in dance education and collaborates with institutions such as Balletto di Roma and the National Academy of Dance in Rome, where he graduated with best honors in Dance Pedagogy.
