I set forth with very concrete elements: space, repetition, hiding, confusion of parts of the real and plastic bodies, a replica of gestures and actions conducted by different people. Dynamics in space alternate with simple actions that have a subtle irony to them. I work on a dynamic dance, which is dressed with break-downs and breakups. I hope to establish something and then call it into question, hence revealing a new element which demonstrates its falsity or negates any singular interpretation, with a subtle irony that is at the same time playful and hopefully sharp and effective.

“Passo” works on the confusion between reality and fiction, between what is real and what is fake/ constructed; it plays with the unveiling of theatrical magic and with the transformation of meaning: one thing initially appears in some way to then reveal itself as something else. It also deals with relationships among persons, with the necessity to return to a shared dimension of community, in that we are essentially related beings.
Choreographer and performer, Ambra Senatore was born in Turin in 1976. She trained with different choreographers. She then worked with Jean-Claude Gallotta, Giorgio Rossi, Raffaella Giordano, Roberto Castello, Antonio Tagliarini… Alongside her work as a performer, she began to create pieces in collaboration with other authors from 1998. Following her PhD on contemporary dance (2004), she teaches dance history at the University of Milan. She’s author of a book on the Italian contemporary dance (UTET editions, Torino, 2007). Between 2004 and 2009, Senatore continued her choreographic research and performed her solos, while also started to perform regularly in France, including the Festival of Avignon. Later, she created ensemble pieces “Passo“ (2010), “A Posto“ (2011) and “John“ (2012). In 2012, she founded EDA company based in Besançon. In 2013, she choreographed and directed “Nos amours bêtes“, a piece for young audiences. Her latest creations are “Aringa Rossa“ (2014), the solo “In Piccolo“ (2014) and the series of performances “Petites Briques“ (2015), “Pièces“ (2016), “Scena madre“ (2017). Between dance, theater and visual art, her work explores the boundaries between fiction and reality, on what belongs to the stage and what is outside. Senatore works on the dynamics of movement based on actions and daily gestures, exploring the construction of a drama that requires action and the presence of bodies. Since 2016, Ambra Senatore is the new director of the Choreographic Centre in Nantes.
